Clark Media is proud to be the exclusive provider of video support for MacNeil/Lehrer Productions’ “The Miller Center of Public Affair’s National Discussion and Debate Series.” For 3 years and 13 episodes the show has travelled the eastern seaboard shooting in historic buildings in New York, Charlottesville, Richmond, Charlottesville, Boston and DC. While some historic sites do not lend themselves easily to video production, Clark Media has always been able to design solutions based on the venue’s features. “The technological heart” of the series, “Clark has never met a situation they could not work with,” said Lyn Reid, Production Manager. Cobblestone sidewalks, tiny elevators, lack of control room space – nothing deters the Clark location staff.
The shows are setup and taped the same day, leaving no time for error. Location scouts and careful planning help, but when there are no second chances the Clark policy of “always travel with backup equipment” is key.
The series is shot in 1080/60i using five Sony HDC1500 multi format HD cameras with a 6th camera available on site if needed. Switched with a Ross Synergy 2.5ME HD switcher system, two 50” plasma monitors are setup as the director’s station, using the Evertz VIP-24 Multiviewer. For on set playback and roll-ins Clark brings two GVG Turbo T2 iDDR using both payback channels and the record simultaneously. Two units – one and a backup.
Clark Media handles the audio record going to 8 HD VTRs. Typical setups include a Yamaha LS9-36 audio board and 6 Shure UHF-R wireless microphones through a Dugan E1 Microphone Processor. Since the show is a free form discussion the Dugan assists with not missing any cues and helps keep the noise floor down.
