Sony XDCam HD – Recording format - Professional Optical Disc (a lot like Blue Ray), in disc size 23GB or 50GB, potentially a 50 year shelf life
Many aren’t aware that XDCam formats have been around since 2003, and were introduced to be used within the traditional tape-based workflow. Many corporate facilities have adopted this format because of the easy to import workflow of the video data files into their NLE using the table top PDW-U1 disc reader.
XDCam also offers a wide range of compression formats between both HD and SD. So if the corporate event you need to record is 30 minutes or 3 hours, you can choose a compression format to best fit your visual and scheduling needs. Clark offers Sony PDW-F75 and PDW-F1600 optical disc recorders as two options for multi-camera record environments. Clients can walk away with their discs just like they would a DVCam tape.
Clark also offers the Sony PDW-F800 Cine Alta camcorder for the clients who have adopted the XDCam workflow, but still require a hi-resolution image for composite work. Highest quality codec for the F800 is a long-GOP compression format MPEG 422 - 1920x1080, 4:2:2, 50Mbs constant bit rate. The F800 also offers 24p recording as well as overcranking and undercranking from 1fps to 48fps, restricted to MPEG HD mode only. But it doesn’t stop there. The F800 can also record in 720/60P formats as well as SD, all and all making this tapeless format Clark’s ideal camera for broadcast and corporate productions.
